ENGFrancesco Marchini (Rome, 1990) is a photographer based in Rome. He works with photography, research and moving image, developing long-term documentary projects.
After graduating in Philosophy from Sapienza University of Rome, he completed an MA in Documentary Photography at the University of South Wales. In 2024, he published his first monograph, The Far Site, with Dutch publisher Chemistry Publishing.
His work looks at how people inhabit, move through and transform spaces shaped by rules, institutions and everyday life. He is particularly interested in the distance between what a place is meant for and what people actually make of it. His projects often grow out of sustained engagement with people and places, moving between direct observation, archival material and constructed or narrative elements.
ITAFrancesco Marchini (Roma, 1990) è un fotografo con base a Roma. Lavora con fotografia, ricerca e immagini in movimento, sviluppando progetti documentari a lungo termine.
Dopo la laurea in Filosofia presso Sapienza Università di Roma, ha conseguito un MA in Documentary Photography presso la University of South Wales. Nel 2024 ha pubblicato la sua prima monografia, The Far Site, con la casa editrice olandese Chemistry Publishing.
Il suo lavoro osserva come le persone abitano, attraversano e trasformano spazi segnati da regole, istituzioni e vita quotidiana. È interessato in particolare alla distanza tra ciò per cui un luogo è pensato e ciò che le persone ne fanno concretamente. I suoi progetti nascono spesso da una frequentazione prolungata di persone e contesti e combinano, a seconda del lavoro, osservazione diretta, materiali d’archivio ed elementi costruiti o narrativi.
